Wildcats crush Wildcats

MORRISON, Okla. — The Morrison Wildcats jumped out early and emptied their bench in a 16-8 run-rule victory over the Covington-Douglas Wildcats Monday at Morrison High School.

Morrison (18-11) scored 10 runs in the first inning and sent 15 batters to the plate. Jordan Quinata and Ben Harmon each scored two runs in the inning. Six other players scored in the inning. Covington-Douglas’ starter didn’t get out of the inning.

“We got the starting lineup through a couple of times,” Morrison coach Tim Hatter said. “Then we gave the JV guys some time to hit.”

The Wildcats responded with three runs in the top of the second. Morrison scored twice in the bottom half to hold a 12-4 advantage. Tanner Neely started and pitched the first two innings for Morrison to earn the win. Quinata pitched the next two innings and Harmon closed the game.

“My three, four and five pitchers got some time to throw today,” Hatter said. “That way, they will be ready for districts.”

Each team scored a run in the fourth. Covington-Douglas scored twice in the top of the fifth but needed one more run to extend the game. Morrison opens district at 4 p.m. Thursday in Morrison against either Barnsdall or Woodland.
