Lady Pioneers get past BTW

TULSA, Okla. — After getting their first win of the season on Friday, the Lady Pioneers soccer team got another with a 2-1 victory over Booker T. Washington.

Stillwater (2-10, 2-4) got goals from Sarah Mays and Lauren Parker. With the victory, the Lady Pioneers are in a four-way tie for the fourth and final playoff spot. Booker T., Bixby and Sapulpa are all 2-4 in district. Stillwater’s other victory was against Bixby. Coach Joey Parker said sophomore goalie Alona Williams stepped up.

“She played outstanding, I think she had about 20 keeper saves,” Parker said. “Can’t say enough about her. She did an outstanding job to help get us the win.”

The Lady Pioneers close the regular season at 6 p.m. Friday at Ponca City. Parker said it’s exciting to see the girls do well.

“The team is finally gelling,” Parker said. “They are getting to experience success.”

The Pioneers played hard but came up short in a loss to the Hornets on Tuesday.

“It was a really good game,” coach Seth Condley said. “We had our chances. If you were watching in the stands it was a fun game to watch. Both teams went up and down the field.”

Momentum turned when Booker T. scored on a penalty kick to take a 3-1 lead. Stillwater had two chances they just missed. One shot went off the cross bar and missed a wide open net from the one-yard line. Luis Rute and Abel Abame scored the Pioneers’ goals. Bryson Reed, Nathan Herrmann and Nick Hawkins also played strong.

Stillwater (6-6, 2-4) still has a shot at postseason as Ponca City (6-6, 2-4) fell to Jenks. The Pioneers travel to Ponca City Friday in a winner-take-all game at 8 p.m.
