Ripley baseball splits in first day of regional tournament

ROFF, Okla. — The Ripley High School Warriors split a pair of games during the first day of the regional tournament Thursday.

In the first game, Chandler Salinas  went 4-for-6 with a double and five RBIs as the Warriors pulled out a 14-10 victory over Stratford.

Caulden Greenfield earned the win going four innings before giving way to Houston Twoguns and Trevor Watts, who closed out the game for the Warriors.

Greenfield also went 2-for-4 at the plate and was aided by Levi Morris’ double and a 4-for-4 performance from Cory Sadler, who also scored three runs and had two RBIs.

Ripley’s bats were quieted in the second game against Roff as the Tigers tallied eight runs in the seventh inning to turn what was close game into a 14-2 blowout.

Levi Morris took the loss, going five innings and allowing six runs.

Salina continued to swing a hot bat in the second game, tallying his sixth RBI of the day while adding a double. Morris also helped his own cause by going 2-for-3

“We just got tight at the end,” Ripley coach Donnie Hoffman said. “I’m proud of our kids, but we just got tight. We were going up against the No. 3 team in the state and we were trying to be too perfect, and after six hours on the diamond it caught up to us.”

Ripley will continue district play Friday at 4 p.m. against the winner of Vannoss and Stratford.
