Lady Maroons finish second at state tennis tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY —

The Perry Lady Maroons entered the Class 4A state tennis tournament looking for an individual champion and a team championship. They left still looking as they finished second.

Perry finished with 23 points, two points behind Metro Christian, a team the Lady Maroons trailed in the rankings all season.

Senior Lauryn Sullins, who entered state undefeated in No. 1 singles, came the closest to winning a title as she suffered her first loss in the championship round to Metro Christian’s Olivia Charvet 1-6, 1-6.

Marrissa Wright finished third. She beat Oklahoma Bible Academy’s Hannah Jackson in the first round and beat Saralyn Dyer from Oklahoma Christian Schools. Wright lost to top-seed Brooklyn Reed of Elk City but beat Henryetta’s Megan Nelson in three sets to claim third.

Both doubles teams finished fourth. Emily Brown and Kayla Woods won their first two matches but lost in the semifinals and the third-place match. Ashlea Calhoon and Amber Isaac won their first two matches but lost in the semifinals and third place.
