Stillwater High School trounces Enid in football

ENID, Okla. — There was no let down for the Stillwater High football team following an emotional upset of Owasso.

The Pioneers traveled to rival Enid and took care of business in a 52-28 victory over the Plainsmen at Selby Stadium on Thursday.

"We felt like it was important to get off to a great start coming off last week and we did that," SHS coach Tucker Barnard said. "We just didn't quite maintain it tonight, but we still held on and got our 15 district points."

Jerame Littell picked on the Enid secondary all night as he had as many incomplete passes as he did touchdowns — going 15-for-22 with 282 yards and seven touchdown passes.

"I've thrown six (touchdown passes), but I've never done seven before. So the seven tonight is a new high," Littell said. "Being able to complete those and have the receivers — and backs even — that will make plays for me after the catch, its huge for this football team. If we keep that up, I think we'll be able to go a long way."

While Littell — who found five different receivers (Parker Zimmerman, Corey Hassel, Darian Williams, Jon Littell and Andrew Minter) for touchdowns — was responsible for all of Stillwater's TDs,

That wasn't to say he didn't get help from the running game. The Pioneers (7-1, 5-0 in district) had two backs — Davion Carter and Andrew Minter — eclipse the 100-yard mark.

After missing four weeks with a hip injury, Carter returned to the backfield and made some big runs in the first half with Minter being slowed by the Enid defensive front line. Carter had two carries for 47 yards in the first half — and finished with 160 yards on 14 carries.

"It was great to be able to get out onto the field and help my teammates — especially against a rival — instead of sitting on the sidelines frustrated," said Carter, who also saw some time on defense.

"Me and Andrew compete. If I do good, he comes out and does better. And if he does better, I go out there and try to be great." However, Minter finally got going at the start of the second half with

a 60-yard run down to the 3-yard line that set up a pass from Jerame Littell to Jon Littell on the very next play. After six carries for 16 yards in the first half, Minter finished with 120 yards on 16 carries to give SHS two 100-yard rushers.

The Pioneers will face a Bartlesville team that put up a fight against Union at Pioneer Stadium next Friday before hosting Union in the season finale.
