Pioneers prepare for Shiloh 7-on-7 tournament

STILLWATER, Okla. — With the season opener against Deer Creek less than two months away, senior quarterback Braxton Noble will look to get in a rhythm with his receivers as Stillwater travels to a 7-on-7 tournament in Shiloh, Ark. Friday and Saturday.

“We competed really well last year,” Noble said. “We expect to win it this year.”

Senior wide receiver Brandon Prather said the tournament is good for developing team chemistry.

“It helps us get our route running down. It helps Braxton get timing for how fast we run our routes.” Prather said.

This is the third year Stillwater has attended this camp. Senior wide receiver Isaiah Johnson said their experience should help the Pioneers play well.

“It should be a good year,” Johnson said. “We’ve grown closer over the year, so we should connect well and hopefully we should win it.”

Noble said playing in the tournament helps him get much-needed repetitions before the start of the season.

“We have liked to chuck the ball in the past,” Noble said. “I think (on the first day last year), I average 500 throws. So those are good reps I can get with my receivers.”

Prather said he likes Stillwater’s chances after finishing in the top eight last summer.

“We have a really good chance with how our offense looks,” Prather said. “I don’t think the other teams can keep up.”
