Glencoe's Baker, Cushing's Boykin among area state track champions

STILLWATER, Okla. — Every high school track athlete dreams of standing on the awards’ podium at the state meet. Friday and Saturday several area high school athletes got to experience just that.

Glencoe freshman Jenny Baker recorded a personal best as she won the Class A discus with a throw of 125 feet and five inches. Baker also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet and 5.5 inches. Coach Stephen Castlebury said she threw well.

“She had three throws that would have won state,” Castlebury said. “She was well ahead of the competition. She has a bright future if she keeps working at it.”

Cushing’s Hunter Boykin won the Class 4A 100-meter dash with a time of 10.75. Also placing for the Tigers was Eddie Martin with a fourth place finish in the long jump (20 feet, 3 inches). Hannah Burris finished fourth in the high jump and Che’Ron Lewis finished fifth in the discus to place for the Lady Tigers. Coach Barrett Shupe was pleased with all of his athletes.

“We were excited for Hunter, he did a great job,” Shupe said. “Hannah did a wonderful job in the high jump. Eddie did a wonderful job in the long jump. He was hurting a little but toughed it out.”
