Ripley routs Davenport in home opener

RIPLEY, Okla. — The Ripley Warriors struck early and often in a 9-1 victory over the Davenport Bulldogs.

The game lasted less than five innings as the Warriors scored the necessary total of runs for the eight-run mercy rule to be invoked. Ripley scored a run in the first, two in the second, one in the third and five in the last two innings.

“We hit the ball really good,” coach Donnie Hoffman said. “We scored that run in the first and those two in the second and were able to put the game out of reach.”

The Watts brothers provided the offensive spark for the Warriors. Dalton Watts had two hits including a double. Trevor Watts hit a triple.

Houston Twoguns made his first start of the season and after giving up three hits and run in the first, he was lights out.

“Twoguns threw really well,” Hoffman said. “He struck out eight.”

Last weekend the Warriors competed in the Dover Classic and won two of three games. Ripley beat Covington Douglas 10-0, Garber 11-0 and fell to Okarche 5-4. Senior Levi Morris hit his first career home run in the second inning against Okarche. Freshman Chandler Salinas hit his first dinger of the spring in the bottom of the seventh against Garber.

The Warriors play at Jones from Class 3A on Thursday.
