UPDATE: Three Stillwater High wrestlers advance in championship bracket

OKLAHOMA CITY — Half of Stillwater High's wrestlers won their first round matchups Friday afternoon at the Class 6A State Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City.

The Pioneers started off strong with freshman Kennedy Monday winning his 106-pound match against Josh Copeland of Midwest City with an 8-6 sudden victory. Sophomore Kaid Brock followed at 113 pounds with a second-period pin of Norman High senior Derek Ross.

Stillwater then hit a rash of close losses with junior King Williams dropping a 3-0 decision to Southmoore senior Zac Damico at 120 pounds and junior Benny Teegarden falling 3-1 to Edmond North senior Josh Breece at 126 pounds.

SHS got back in the win column with sophomore Joe Smith collecting a 19-4 technical fall of Lawton senior Danny Maldanado in the 132-pound weight class. Stillwater's sixth wrestler, freshman Chase Lane, was pinned in the second period by Muskogee junior Dawaylon Barnes.

First round consolation matches for Williams, Teegarden and Lane are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., with championship semifinals beginning at 7:15 p.m.
