Demons face familiar foe in first round of playoffs

STILLWATER, Okla. — With their first-round playoff matchup with the Keota Lions 7:30 p.m. Friday, the Coyle Bluejackets turned it up a notch during practice this week.

“We had the best practice we’ve had all year,” coach Shane Weathers said. “Lots of hitting and popping going on. We’ve been getting after it in practice harder than we have in games.”

Keota (8-2) has a solid offense that’s been held under 40 in only three games. Weathers said the Lions have two really good athletes.

“Their quarterback and tailback are really good,” Weathers said. “They have a good interior line. The quarterback and tailback are linebackers on defense. We have to make sure we stay on our blocks and make sure we tackle everyone.”

The Bluejackets (8-2) are riding the momentum of a seven-game winning streak beating opponents by an average score of 51-6. One of Coyle’s victories was earned by forfeit in Week 9 against Riverfield Country Day. Coyle’s defense has produced four shutouts.

Weathers said his team will need to execute well to move on.

“We can’t have turnovers on offense and we got to create turnovers on defense,” Weathers said. “On special teams we have to play well and not allow any big plays.”

Perkins-Tryon (5-5) at Jones (8-2)

The Demons hope to repeat their opening week outcome as they rematch with the Longhorns in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Jones.

“Jones and us go way back and there isn’t many secrets between us,” coach Lloyd Wertman said. “We were fortunate
