Carney keeps playoff hopes alive with win over Prue

STILLWATER, Okla. — Friday night against Prue, the Carney Bulldogs did something it hasn’t the whole season — score a lot of points and not allow any. A 50-0 victory has put the Bulldogs back into the playoff picture in District 3-C.

“We are playing really well and I can’t complain,” coach Mark Davis said. “The defense pitched a shutout. We played right and collected a lot of turnovers. This is a good thing.”

Two weeks ago against Timberlake, Carney turned a 28-24 game at halftime into a 52-30 victory. Davis said the team is as close to full strength as it has been all season.

“We lost a center to a shoulder injury outside of football,” Davis said. “We were able to put someone else in. Being at full strength makes a difference. We are able to give guys rest and more reps.”

Davis said the biggest difference in his team is its confidence.

“The spirits and confidence of this team is up,” Davis said. “They believe they can win. They have stepped it up a notch. We are playing together as a team instead of individually.”

Carney started the season with a stacked schedule, playing Cherokee and Deer Creek-Lamont, who were ranked in the top 10. Davis said he wishes his team would get to play them now.

“I think if we played them at full strength, those games would have gone differently,” Davis said. “I still think we can win out and that would put us at 6-3 in the conference. Maybe that will be good enough for playoffs which is something this school hasn’t seen.”

Carney takes a break from the district schedule and will host Gracemont 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Coyle (5-2, 5-1) 50, Watts (0-7, 0-6) 0

WATTS — The Bluejackets made quick work of the Engineers, only needing a half to complete a 50-0 victory.

Coyle scored 36 points in the first quarter and picked up 15 first downs to Watts’ 3. Senior Gary Hunter led the team in rushing with 93 yards and scored three touchdowns. Senior Fidel Simpson rushed for two touchdowns and rushed for 33 yards. Junior quarterback Ryan Weathers made his completions count as two of his three went for touchdowns. Weathers finished with 35 yards passing. Senior Tony Aska had one touchdown reception along with 28 yards receiving. Dillon Downey and Heath Moorman led the team in receiving yards with 31 each.

The Bluejackets’ defense was stingy. Watts couldn’t get a ground game going at all, rushing for -46 yards. Coyle only allowed five competitions for 29 yards.

The Bluejackets host Oaks-Mission at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Hennessey (5-2, 3-0) 64, Pawnee (1-6, 0-4) 3

HENNESSEY — The Black Bears weren’t able to match the Eagles’ offense as they fell 64-3 Friday in Hennessey.

The Eagles scored 15 points in the first, 21 in the second and 28 in the third. Pawnee didn’t score until the third quarter. The Black Bears were outgained 341 to 70 on the ground and 74 to 9 in the air.

Marlon Houston Jr., led the team in passing with three completions for nine yards. Trey Elston led the team with 63 yards rushing on six carries. Paydon Moore caught one pass for seven yards.

The Black Bears host Chisholm at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
