All-Area Wrestling: Successful season for area wrestlers

STILLWATER, Okla. — Area high school wrestling teams had a very successful season. Stillwater High sent six to the state tournament and three wrestlers finished in the top four of their weight class. The Perry Maroons and the Cushing Tigers qualified several with Cushing finishing second in Class 4A and Perry winning its 39th state title. Here are the wrestlers that excelled:

106: Dalton Revels, sophomore Perry

Finished 33-13 and was a state runner-up. Revels won his weight class at the Class 3A regionals.

113: Kaid Brock, sophomore, Stillwater

In a loaded weight class, Brock broke the all-area first team thanks to an undefeated season. The Stillwater sophomore went 37-0 and won the Class 6A state championship.

120: Noah Nida, sophomore Perry

Nida had a strong sophomore season, finishing second at state. Nida went 31-14 and won the Class 3A regionals.

126: Mason Roberts, junior Cushing

Roberts won the Class 4A regionals and had a strong performance at state. The 126-pound junior won a 7-2 decision and a victory by fall before losing in the finals at the state tournament. Roberts finished 33-7.

132: Joe Smith, sophomore Stillwater

For most of the season, Smith was untouchable as he won his first 39 matches. Smith won the 6A regionals but fell in a narrow 13-12 decision in the state finals.

138: Ricky Ahrberg, senior Cushing

Ahrberg finished second at the Class 4A regionals and went 1-2 in the state tournament. The senior went 25-5 in his final season.

145: Colton Looper, junior Perry

Looper had a strong junior season winning the Class 3A regionals and posting a 35-8 record. The junior made it to the state finals before losing to Davey Dolan from Berryhill.

152: Austin Allen, senior Perry

Allen finished his career strong with a 37-12 record and a second place finish in both the Class 3A regionals and state tournament.

160: Gage Stallworth, junior Cushing

Though he missed most of his junior season with a broken leg, Stallworth was able to defend his state title. Stallworth finished 24-1 and beat Blanchard’s Braden Stringer in the state finals to avenge his regional loss.

170: Marlon Houston Jr., junior Pawnee

Houston was the Black Bears’ lone representative but had a solid outing at the state tournament finishing a win shy of a state title. Houston went 30-4 in his junior season.

182: Garrett Beier, sophomore Perry

Beier finished second at the Class 3A regionals and in the top six at state. Beier won his first round state match with a 10-6 decision and finished 39-13.

195: Trevor Hubble, junior Cushing

Hubble barely qualified for state but won a consolation match to finish his season at 22-17.

220: Kyle Varley, senior Perry

Varley recovered from a first round upset at state and won his next two matches before losing the consolation final to finish fourth. Varley went 41-10 in his final season.

285: Nate Wade, senior Perry

In his final season, Wade finished in the top six at state after a third-place regional finish. Wade won his first round match at state to finish 27-13.
