Perkins-Tryon rides big win into playoffs

PERKINS, Okla. — A 53-6 win against Okmulgee for the Perkins-Tryon Demons will send them to the first round of playoffs next week.

Coach Lloyd Wertman said almost everybody played but he gave the credit to the seniors.

“Our seniors really played an outstanding game, all 16 of them,” Wertman said.

The Demons will face Blanchard, the district 3A1 champions, next week in playoffs.

BETHANY 20, CUSHING 19

CUSHING — The Tigers’ head to the playoffs next week, coming off a loss to Bethany.

Cushing lost by a point after a back and forth game.

“At the end of the night Bethany made more plays than we did to win the game,” coach Barrett Shupe said.

Cushing will travel for the first round of playoffs Friday.

“We’ve just got to move past it and get ready for next week,” Shupe said.

PERRY 13, NEWKIRK 12

PERRY — The Maroons defeated Newkirk with 13 unanswered points in the final 6 minutes of play.

The game-winning score came from a 2-yard touchdown run by Dawson Padilla with 16 seconds remaining. Sam Wisdom scored on the point after attempt.

Padilla threw for 185 yards with one interception.

The Maroons finished fifth in district, 4-6 overall and ended on a three game winning streak.

COYLE 46, SOUTH COFFEYVILLE 0

SOUTH COFFEYVILLE — Coyle shut out South Coffeyville in only three quarters.

An 80-yard kickoff return by Gary Hunter ended the game in the third quarter. Hunter led the team with 91 yards rushing. Ryan Weathers threw for 98 and also had a 49-yard touchdown run.

Next week, Coyle will host the third-place team for class B district 4 in the first round of playoffs.

CRESCENT 27, PAWNEE 3

PAWNEE —The Black Bears lost their final game this season to Crescent.

Browning Nicolet kicked a 31-yard field goal to get Pawnee on the board in the second quarter. He also had 55 yards rushing.

Pawnee finishes the season 2-8 overall.

YALE 52, REGENT PREP 34

TULSA — The Bulldogs defeated Regent Prep in their final game of the season.

Coach Craig Ellis said his offense executed well on the field and gave credit to Eric Hambrick for multiple rushes of over 50 yards.

“He was probably the all-time rusher tonight,” Ellis said.

Yale finishes the season 5-5 overall and 2-4 in district.
