STILLWATER, Okla. — Without a doubt, the Forts and Southwestern College have quite a history together — and it will continue to grow.

Troy Fort, a Stillwater senior, signed with Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan., to further his golf career. Fort will be the 10th member of the family to attend SC.

“(My parents) were very happy with the decision I made,” Fort said.

Fort’s signing took place at Stillwater High School on Nov. 26. Fort chose Southwestern for a number of reasons.

“I picked it because it fit with what I wanted. The whole small school feel,” Fort said.

Fort will attend the college in the fall on both a golf and an academic scholarship.

Fort’s sisters both attended Southwestern as well. Chelsea graduated in 2012 and played softball. Hayley is set to graduate in May and plays basketball and tennis for Southwestern.

The family dynamic that makes up a long history with SC was a major decision why Fort wanted to attend the college.

But it wasn’t the only reason.

“They have a great program with a great coach and coaching staff,” Fort said.

Fort began playing golf as a hobby. The love for the game emerged quickly and it evolved into much more than a hobby.

“I didn’t start taking it seriously until about the eighth grade,” Fort said. “Golf has always suited my temperament and personality.”
