Pioneers get payback against Owasso

OWASSO, Okla. — Stillwater and Owasso were in an important district matchup that had postseason implications on Saturday.

Stillwater was able to bounce back and win 7-3.

“The defense made some good plays. We didn’t have any mistakes tonight,” Stillwater coach Jimmy Harris said. “It was a team win.”

Stillwater senior Carson Teel started on the bump for the Pioneers. Teel tossed all seven innings and picked up the victory. Teel struck out six in the win at Owasso.

“With Carson on the hill we know we have a chance,” Harris said.

The Pioneers (24-2, 11-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning with Michael Higgins hitting in T.J. Black.

Ryan Hoecker hit a double to send Harrison Cornforth across the plate. Teel then hit a triple to plate Hoecker. Higgins picked up his second RBI by scoring Brooks Zimmerman in the fifth to lead 4-0.

Owasso did not go away and put three runs on the scoreboard in the sixth inning to cut the Pioneer lead to 4-3 going into the final inning.

The Pioneers answered with a Will Fowler two-RBI double to right field to score Jon Littell and Zimmerman in the top of the seventh to add cushion to the Stillwater lead at 6-3. Higgins earned is third RBI with a single that allowed Fowler to score to go up 7-3.

Owasso could not muster a run in the seventh and fell 7-3 to the Pioneers.

Stillwater will meet Jenks in its final home game April 28 and will play at Jenks on April 29 for the final game of the regular season. The home-and-home will be the Pioneers’ final games of the regular season and will likely determine who hosts a regional tournament out of the district.

“They know what’s ahead of them,” Harris said. “They’re going to be ready.”
