Ripley's Twoguns dominates No. 8 Amber-Pocasset

STILLWATER, Okla. — On Thursday, Ripley’s Houston Twoguns was tasked with pitching against No. 8 Amber-Pocasset in the opener of the Maverick Mini Mart Classic. The junior delivered with a complete game and struck out 12. Twoguns was named the News Press Area Athlete of the Week for his performance.

“Pitching a good game against a top 10 team is something to feel really good about,” Twoguns said. “I always enjoy pitching a good game.”

Twoguns’ performance on the mound was dominant but the pitcher gave credit to his teammates, who helped him achieve the outcome.

“My teammates kept me in the game,” Twoguns said. “They just gave me the confidence and we got a ‘W’ against a good team.”

Twoguns is the ace in the Warriors’ rotation. It’s a role that is rewarding but also has its challenges.

“I got a lot of good teammates that keep me going,” Twoguns said. “I have a lot of confidence because they are solid out there. I know they are going to make plays.”

Coach Donnie Hoffman said he’s impressed with how his junior pitcher is throwing.

“He is throwing the ball really well,” Hoffman said. “He really threw some great pitches.”

Twoguns said having the confidence of his coach gives him motivation on the hill.

“It gives me a lot of confidence knowing that (Hoffman) is willing to throw me out there against anyone,” Twoguns said. “I don’t want to brag but we have a really good chance of winning when I’m pitching.”

Last fall, the Warriors were a win away from advancing to regionals. In the spring, they reached regionals. Twoguns said he feels this team can go on a deep postseason run.

“We’ve gotten 10 times better since (the fall),” Twoguns said. “We’ve improved a lot and we should do well.”
