STILLWATER, Okla. —
Stillwater has not lost since going to Broken Arrow on March 13. The Pioneers have rattled off 11 straight victories, including four district wins.
SHS will host Sand Springs at 5 p.m. Thursday for the Pioneers’ second home game of the season.
“We’ve been on the road a lot here recently,” Stillwater coach Jimmy Harris said. “The boys like home games. We’re having a good year so obviously you want to play in front of your home crowd.”
Stillwater (12-1) will begin the home-and-home series against district opponent Sand Springs on Thursday at home and at Sand Springs on Friday. The Sandites come into the series at 5-9. Sand Springs and Stillwater have one common opponent, Muskogee. Sand Springs fell to the Roughers 6-2 and 7-6. Stillwater is fresh off of doubleheader victories over Muskogee on the road. Stillwater won 8-1 and 3-2.
“We have to focus and take it one game at a time. We have to know that they’re part of our district and we got to go undefeated in our district to host,” Stillwater senior Carson Teel said.
The Pioneers are not as concerned with what their opponents are able to do, but are focusing on what they can control.
“We have to be who we are and we have to do what we do,” Harris said. “Our job is to go out and to play with high energy and hustle. … The scoreboard is going to take care of itself if we play the way we play.”
Stillwater has played just one of its 13 games on its home field this year. The Pioneers are happy to be home and play at Couch Park.
“It’s always a pleasure, I love Couch Park. It’s been my home for three or four years now,” Teel said.
