Morrison, Glencoe and Pawnee softball teams roll to easy victories


The Morrison Lady Wildcats proved to be too much for the Ripley Lady Warriors in an 11-2 victory Tuesday.

“We gave up those two runs in the first but we responded,” Morrison coach Tim Hatter said. “We were able to keep our weight back and drive pitches.”

Ripley led 2-0 after the first but Morrison responded with five runs and led for good. The Lady Wildcats out-hit the Lady Warriors 15-6. Leading Morrison’s offense was Kalie Vernon, Taylor Williams and Jamie Lovely, who each hit doubles. Jacey Bales picked up the win.

The Lady Wildcats (7-7) visit Prue Thursday.

Glencoe 14, Shidler 1

SHIDLER — The Glencoe Lady Panthers scored early and often to dismantle the Shidler Lady Tigers 14-1 Tuesday.

Glencoe scored four runs in the first before exploding for nine runs in the second. Whitney Frank led the team with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI. Robin Porter went 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI. Chelsea Lazenby went 2 for 2 with a double and 3 RBI.

Alicia Place earned the win only allowing one run on four hits and two Glencoe errors. The freshman walked one and struck out two.

Pawnee 6, Newkirk 1

NEWKIRK — The Pawnee Lady Black Bears had their last game cut short because the stadium didn’t have lights which resulted in a loss. Tuesday, the Lady Black Bears rebounded with a 6-1 victory over Newkirk.

“We fought through the loser’s bracket and it was a tough ending in the second championship game,” coach Chad Tsotigh said. “The girls didn’t let that hold them back.”

Pawnee competed in the Hominy Tournament last weekend and finished second. Tuesday against Newkirk, the Lady Black Bears scored two runs in the first and two in the third to take a 4-0 lead. After surrending a run in the fifth the Lady Black Bears scored a run in the fifth and sixth.

Hannah Burkett picked up the win and helped her cause with a 2 for 4 performance at the plate. Justice Waters led the team with three hits and two RBI. Haley Evans went 3 for 3 with a double and a run batted in. Chrissie Collins went 1 for 3. Keely Roberts and Tori Stevens each went 2 for 4.

The Lady Black Bears host Waukomis Thursday.
