Early miscues cost Lady Pioneers in loss to Westmoore

STILLWATER, Okla. —

When you don’t have much experience, sometimes you have to go through growing pains. That’s exactly what the Stillwater Lady Pioneers are working through after a 14-3 loss to the Westmoore Lady Jaguars at Lady Pioneer Stadium at Couch Park Tuesday.

“We had some lackadaisical errors,” Stillwater coach Amber Davis said. “When your infield is freshmen and sophomores that’s going to happen.”

Westmoore recorded 19 hits with two on bunts and one infield single. Stillwater also allowed the Lady Jaguars to reach on a fielder’s choice in which an out wasn’t recorded and two errors also let Westmoore reach base. Destinie Lookout reached on the fielder’s choice to score Rachel Toft. Mason Andrews bunted to the SHS’ pitcher Taylor Lane who tried to get the out at home but Halley Randolph’s tag just missed Sydnee Ramsey allowing Westmoore to score its second run of the game.  The Lady Jaguars jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

“It’s just lack of experience,” Davis said. “I’m not worried about anything we will bounce back.”

The Lady Pioneers (4-6, 2-4) did respond as Cailin Fluty  and Emily Madison reached on base hits. With two outs, Saige Fluty doubled and scored Cailin Fluty. Mackenzie Stokes walked to load the bases but the threat ended when Laikyn Anderson struck out.

The Lady Jaguars (13-3, 6-1) struck again in the third as their first three batters reached to load the bases. Lucas and Bailey Whitmore each knocked in a run with singles after Stillwater was able to pick off the lead runner in a rundown between third and home. Strickland hit a slow roller to the mound which scored Lucas.

Halley Randolph cut Westmoore’s lead as she blasted a ball over the left field wall for a solo home run. Randolph said she just received a good pitch.
