No. 2 Frontier rolls past Morrison; No. 1 Glencoe boys crush Deer Creek-Lamont

RED ROCK, Okla. — The No. 2 Frontier Lady Mustangs pulled away in the second half to defeat the Morrison Lady Wildcats 70-49 in the first round of the Frontier Shootout.

Frontier led 30-23 at halftime but outscored Morrison 23-13 in the third quarter to put the game away. Lady Mustangs coach Bob Weckstein said that was largely due to the play of his post Marissa Goodman.

“Marissa sat on the bench most of the second quarter,” Weckstein said. “We’ve been pretty good when she is on the floor and we need to find a way to have success when she isn’t out there.”

Goodman finished with a game-high 22 points. Kristen Molina scored 19, Thristan Young scored 17 and Michaelanne Nelson scored 11.

Morrison coach Rowdy Cawlfield said the game got away from his team in the second half.

“We had a couple mental mistakes that allowed them to run away with it,” Cawlfield said.

Jacey Bales led Morrison in scoring with 12 points. Shawna Walls contributed 11.

Frontier plays the winner of No. 13 Tonkawa and Crescent at 4:15 p.m. Thursday. Morrison will play the loser at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Pawnee 57, Woodland 24

FAIRFAX — The Pawnee Lady Black Bears played solid defense and won their first game under coach Chad Tsotigh in a 57-24 victory over the Lady Cougars Monday.

“We had active hands,” Tsotigh said. “We moved the ball around well on offense. Found girls on the block that put the ball in the basket. We were very unselfish.”

Pawnee (1-0) grabbed the lead from the get-go and held a 16-6 edge after the first quarter. The Lady Black Bears expanded their lead throughout the game. Dorcas Hall-Zotigh led the team in scoring with 13 points. Eight different players scored points for Pawnee. The Lady Black Bears start play in the Oilton Tournament on Thursday.

Glencoe 85, Deer Creek-Lamont 47

POND CREEK — The No. 1 Glencoe Panthers overcame a sloppy start and disposed of Deer Creek-Lamont in the first round of the Pond Creek-Hunter tournament Monday.

“We were a little rusty since we had our game canceled Friday,” coach John Lazenby said. “We got the win and were able to play our subs the whole fourth quarter.”

The Panthers (5-0) led 24-11 after the first quarter and continued to expand their lead. Three Glencoe players reached double figures with Ty Lazenby leading the team with 23. Jake Lazenby scored 19 and Andrew Kuhn scored 11. Glencoe faces the winner of Kremlin-Hillsdale and Covington-Douglas at 5:20 p.m. Thursday.
