Cushing crushes Cleveland in non-district tilt

CUSHING, Okla. — The Class 3A Tigers kept Cleveland off the scoreboard and beat the 4A team 35-0.

Cushing started strong after causing a turnover early in the game. The Tigers turned it into a score in only three plays.

“From then on we got after them pretty good,” Cushing coach Barrett Shupe said.

The Tigers scored all of their points in the first half and focused on eating up the clock during the second half.

“We were just trying to get out there in the wind and stay healthy,” Shupe said.

The defense secured the shutout for Cushing.

“Our defense needs all the credit,” Shupe said. “The defensive staff did a wonderful job.”

Next week, Cushing will travel to Prague to take on the Red Devils.

REJOICE CHRISTIAN 56, COYLE 18

OWASSO — The Bluejackets fell to Rejoice Christian on the road  after being outscored 32-0 in the first quarter.

Rejoice Christian stopped Coyle by running a blitz for most of the game, Coyle coach Shane Weathers said. Weathers said his team expected the blitz and practiced for it all week.

“We thought we were prepared for that,” Weathers said.

The practice wasn’t enough for Coyle to upset the No. 5 team in Class B.

“We didn’t do a good job of picking it up tonight,” Weathers said. “They controlled the line of scrimmage.”

Despite the loss, Weathers said he still has confidence in his team.

“We’re just young, and we’ll get better,” Weathers said.

The Bluejackets will travel to Welch Friday.

MOUNDS 7, YALE 6

YALE — A defensive game played by Yale cost them the win against Mounds.

Yale led the first three quarters 6-0, from an interception by Austin Reams. Reams also caused a fumble and had three assists and two solo tackles.

Yale coach Craig Ellis said penalties were a big problem for the Bulldogs. Yale had four turnovers and 10 penalties.

“We’ve got to cut out mistakes,” Ellis said. “Not make the little mistakes.”

MORRISON 32, OKLAHOMA BIBLE ACADEMY 27

MORRISON — The Wildcats pulled out a win with their running game against OBA.

Scott VanDorn and Jordan Quinata teamed up to score all four of Morrison’s touchdowns. Tristan Garringer recorded a two-point reception on a pass from Quinata.

“Tonight we couldn’t protect our quarterback very well so we didn’t throw much,” Morrison coach Cory Bales said. “We better get it fixed in a hurry.”

Bales said the team will work on the passing game before next week’s home game against Depew.

ANADARKO 53, PERRY 7

PERRY — Perry’s offense improved but not in comparison to Anadarko.

The Maroons moved the ball for 136 yards, 124 of those on the ground.

Four turnovers were costly for the Maroons though. Two interceptions resulted in touchdowns.

Hunter Condit had 13 carries for 50 yards and one touchdown.

Perry will play Tonkawa on Friday.

Pawnee 37, Barnsdall 0

Barnsdall — Pawnee ran up the scoreboard and kept Barnsdall out of the endzone.

Running back Browning Nicolet had a strong game for the Black Bears. He scored three touchdown runs.

“Our kids played hard,” Pawnee coach Marlon Houston said.

The Black Bears will play at Newkirk on Friday.
