TONKAWA, Okla. — The Pawnee Lady Black Bears have secured a spot in the Class 2A softball regionals with 12-1 and 10-2 victories over Tonkawa/Deer Creek-Lamont Wednesday at districts.

Pawnee took control of the first game with five runs in the fourth inning and followed with five in the fifth. Pawnee coach Chad Tsotigh said his team timed pitches better.

“We hit the ball well and hit a couple to the fence,” Tsotigh said. “We struggled to hit on slower pitchers but were fine when we got our timing down.”

Chrissie Collins pitched the first three innings and picked up the win. Though the game ended up lopsided, Hannah Burkett earned the save. The Lady Black Bears (22-12) had plenty of hitters. Keely Roberts went 2 for 3. Burkett was 3 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI. Collins went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Dorcas Hall-Zotigh went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Hailey Evans went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Larra Tesertiller went 3 for 4.

In the second game, Pawnee fell behind 2-0 but came back with four runs in the second inning and added five in the third to pull away. Collins earned the win. Tori Stevens went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Burkett went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs. Evans got a hit and an RBI.

“We were patient at the plate,” Tsotigh said. “We got our walks and in the second and third innings we hit them around.”

Regional assignments will be annouced at the beginning of next week.
