CARNEY, Okla. —
The Carney Bulldogs season has ended before it started. The Bulldogs suffered two injuries in their first scrimmage and have canceled their 2013 football season.
“It’s just the way it goes,” Carney coach David Treadwell said. “We are a small school and sometimes it’s difficult to field a team.”
Carney only had nine players come out and the injuries reduced them to seven — which is one less needed to play eight-man football. A senior and freshman were injured with one of them breaking his collarbone. Treadwell said it was tough for the remaining players to hear the season was canceled.
“Obviously there was some disappointment,” Treadwell said. “They were understanding that we don’t have enough players to play.”
The Bulldogs were supposed to host Agra on Friday to open the season. Treadwell said he is unsure about the future of the program.
“We may re-evaluate it and we may not,” Treadwell said.
