STILLWATER, Okla. —
Ripley Lady Warrior Jaclyn McKnight is usually one of the top scorers and many would think this is her personality on the court. McKnight would tell you otherwise.
“I don’t set a goal to score a set amount of points,” McKnight said. “Our point guard distributes the ball well.”
Whether or not it’s McKnight’s objective, she led Ripley in scoring two of the last three games.
“She’s a good all-around player,” coach Doug Scott said. “She passes the ball well and defends well. She is really good at getting the big basket when we need it.”
On Tuesday against Wellston, McKnight scored 23 points to lead the team in a 55-44 victory. Friday against Carney, McKnight was co-leading scorer with 12 in a 63-21 victory. Saturday against Cashion McKnight was second in scoring with 13 points. McKnight said it feels good to lead the team but gave credit to her teammates.
“It is a good feeling but it isn’t anything special,” McKnight said. “Kylie Ladd is also a good scorer. We just have a really good team.”
Ripley is 10-1 as the first half of the season is in its final games. McKnight said it’s exciting the success the team is having.
“I think we are doing well as a team,” McKnight said. “I don’t think we are beatable. We all do really play well together.”
Scott said his team having solid chemistry makes his job easier.
“I’m very lucky to have a great group of girls,” Scott said. “It’s fun coaching them.”
