Perkins-Tryon Lady Demons look to stay perfect at 66 Conference Tournament

PERKINS, Okla. — The Perkins-Tryon Lady Demons look to defend their undefeated record and number one seed in the 66 Conference Tournament starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“We’re happy about it,” coach Jerry Burnett said. “There’s three other teams that are ranked, so it should be a competitive tournament.”

According to OK Rankings, The Lady Demons (16-0) are ranked second in Class 3A. Prague is ninth with a 12-3 record and Meeker is ranked 15th with an 11-3 record. Stroud enters the tournament at 9-4 and is ranked in other polls. P-T opens with Chandler, which has won one game Tuesday.  Burnett said his team needs to take every game seriously.

“We got to get past Chandler first,” Burnett said. “We will more than likely play Stroud next. They will be competitive. They are big and match up well with our girls. We are looking forward to it.”

Burnett said this tournament will be helpful in preparing for next month’s postseason.

“We have three games in six days,” Burnett said. “We are hoping to win this tournament and keep our undefeated season going.”

The Lady Demons’ second game will be at 7 p.m. Thursday with a win or 4 p.m. Friday with a loss.

Demons look for strong outing in tourney

Ranked in the middle of the field, the Demons hope to make a run on their home floor in the 66 Conference Tournament.

Perkins-Tryon (9-6) is the fourth seed and opens with Prague at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will likely play top-seeded Okemah at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Other solid teams are Stroud at 10-2 and Seminole at 9-4. The Demons enter the tournament on a three-game winning streak and have won four of their last six. P-T’s winning streak is largely due to its defense, holding its last six opponents under 40 points
