Coyle basketball sweeps Agra

COYLE, Okla. — The Lady Bluejackets improved to 2-0 with a 65-43 victory over the Agra Lady Bearcats on Tuesday.

“We won pretty handily,” coach Tom Webb said. “We had a run in the third quarter where we got up by 18 or 20 and never looked back.”

Agra coach Jon Peveler said the game changed in a four-minute span at the end of the second quarter and beginning of the third.

“It was a tight ball game then in the last two and a half minutes, they went on a 10-0 run,” Peveler said. “In the first two minutes of the third they went on a 10-0 run to put us down by 23. Other than that it was an even ball game.”

Webb said he was impressed with his young talent.

“We are starting quite a few freshmen,” Webb said. “Ten of our 15 players are freshmen. We’ve looked really good and they’ve really stepped up.”

Davenport 81, Carney 47

CARNEY — The Lady Bulldogs gave a solid effort but fell short against the Davenport Lady Bulldogs, 81-47 at home on Tuesday.

“We were working with nine girls and one fouled out,” coach Connie Davis said. “We are doing much better. We made Davenport get out of its man-to-man defense. We just have to make the ball go in the hole when we have the opportunity.”

Carney trailed 12-7 after the first and then fell behind 30-22 at halftime. Davenport pulled away in the third, holding a 58-37 lead.

Boys

Perkins-Tryon 58, Cleveland 35

PERKINS — The Demons jumped out early and never looked back in a 58-35 victory over the Tigers in the season opener in Perkins Tuesday.

P-T led 15-6 after the first and led 29-21. The Demons outscored the Tigers 29-14 in the second half. Cody Waitt led the team in scoring with 16 points. Caleb White contributed 13.

Coyle 64, Agra 43

COYLE — The Bluejackets used a run in the second quarter to pull away from the Bearcats in a 64-43 victory on Tuesday in Coyle.

“We pushed the tempo and got some steals and easy buckets,” coach Josh Sumrall said.

Coyle (2-0) turned a four-point game into a 15-point game, holding a 36-21 lead at halftime. The Bearcats weren’t able to rally in the second half as they were outscored 28-22.
