LETTERS: On Quran and faith

STILLWATER, Okla. — Speaking out



As Christian faith leaders in Stillwater we feel it is important to stand with our Muslim community in a time of heightened tensions and regrettable acts of hatred, particularly the recently proposed Quran burning in Florida. 

We deplore destructive acts of religious extremists in all faith traditions.  Clearly the majority of Muslims – including American Muslims – do not support acts of terror in the name of God. 

  Behavior such as the proposed burning of the Quran only serves to endanger Americans everywhere and build up the very dividing walls that Christ came to break down.

What if, instead, we were to practice the radical love of God and neighbor that Jesus both proposed and lived as the central tenet of faith? 

Love is harder to choose than hatred and fear, but we believe that we are called to that choice, and will be blessed in the choosing.
