Letter to the editor:
There is a haze of apathy blanketing Stillwater that you cannot find elsewhere in Oklahoma. It is caused mostly by the left-leaning liberal teachings of our academic political experts at Oklahoma State University. Living their lives on government checks, few comprehend the fact that ultimately all the money they get is from the private sector, from which they want more. Fortunately, the surrounding state is blessed with an abundance of common sense so only apathetic citizens of the community suffer.
Our comrade mayor is leading his version of the former Soviet “Duma” to convert Stillwater into a socialistic commune where the government controls everything and taxes the people at will.
The year 1979 was a pivotal time enabling this phenomenon. That was the year that Payne County became leader in the state for big government per capita (Ref. www.ocpathink.org). This is a title that the county still retains. It is also the year the illusory Public Trust known as the Stillwater Utility Authority was formed.
Few people know, understand, or even care that this and all other public trust authorities are not “trusts” at all. The title is political deception as they are “legal tools” that allow elected officials to legally do things they are not allowed to do. To make it worse, the state of Oklahoma ignores its own laws on the subject of public trusts.
Anytime a government votes to give itself new powers that it did not have, or the ability to tax the people at will, the people will suffer. The result is less government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
It inches toward other forms of government such as fascism, socialism, dictatorships, or even communism. All are authoritarian by nature and the people become slaves of the government plantation as those changes are rarely ever corrected.
I suggest the OSU political movement should get active and focus on clearing the haze over Stillwater by informing the public of what is really going on in local government.
Perhaps the mayor should write an ordinance or resolution to make apathy mandatory citywide to stop this movement before it gains momentum. You can do it John …
