Library reminds residents to plan for state tax forms

Beginning Jan. 2, the Stillwater Public Library will provide tax forms and instruction booklets for people to plan, prepare and file their 2009 taxes.

However, state items will not be available.

According to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, it is not providing state forms or instructions to libraries this year, but it will mail these items automatically to residents as long as they filed last year and as long as they did not file online.

If a form does not arrive in the mail, the tax commission requests that taxpayers print their own tax forms from the OTC Web site at http://www.tax.ok.gov/itformcrt1.html.

The tax commission also will send forms via mail by request.

Contact taxpayer assistance at 1-800-522-8165 or otcmaster@tax.ok.gov to request forms by mail. When calling the toll-free request number, choose option 4 to order forms.

The Stillwater Public Library will continue to try to gain access to a limited number of instruction booklets for customers to use on a checkout basis.

Anyone who is willing to donate their 511 state instructions for library use can do so by turning in the booklets at the help desk. The library will then loan those booklets to other library users.

Taxpayers who do not have internet access or who prefer not to order forms are welcome to use the library's internet service to print forms and instructions.

Copies from the library are 10 cents per page.

The 511 resident packet for 2009, which includes forms, instructions and tables, is 40 pages, or $4 per packet.

This change does not affect federal forms.

The Stillwater Public Library will continue to stock free federal forms, instructions and publications, which will be available beginning Saturday, at the back east wall behind the internet terminals.

AARP will hold its free tax preparation assistance program beginning Feb. 3 on the third floor of the library.

Free assistance will be available every Wednesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Stillwater Public Library is located at 1107 S. Duck St. - the corner of Duck and 12th Avenue.

Library to “Break the Ice” for grades 6 to 12

Stillwater Public Library will “Break the Ice” for the new year on Wednesday next week by breaking the boredom caused by the long holiday vacation and the Blizzard of 2009.

At 3 p.m. the program for grades 6-12 will begin with ice breaker games, hot chocolate and treats.

The games will be followed by the movie, Cool Runnings. This icy Disney comedy is based on the true story of the first Jamaican bobsled team trying to make it to the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.

Presented by the Stillwater Public Library and sponsored by the Friends of the Library, this program is free of charge.

For more information, contact the Stillwater Public Library by phone at (405) 372-3633 or by e-mail at askalibrarian@stillwater.org .
