Volunteers help library operate

This week, we are celebrating our fabulous volunteers.

They help us keep the library running smoothly by giving their time every week. We have 12 long-term volunteers, as well as a ton of devoted Friends of the Library members and members of our library and trust boards. We celebrate these volunteers each year, but today I wanted to sincerely thank the organizations that help us at times through the year. Here are some of our favorite library heroes!

• Thank you to the Stillwater Boy Scouts! These guys (and their parents) are amazing! Every book sale, they move our books into the sales room and move the leftover books out afterward. This is truly back breaking work, but they always have a ton of energy, a great attitude and they never complain. We couldn’t do the book sales without them.

• Thank you to Oklahoma Quality Printing! OKQP provides all of the library’s bookmarks which we use to publicize our services and events.  The community would not know about many of our important activities if not for their generosity.

• Along the same lines, thank you to the OSU and Stillwater newspapers (Thank you Stillwater News Press!), radio stations, blogs, newsletters and magazines. They help keep the community informed about the library and we credit them with keeping the library and the importance of reading in the minds of our citizens.

• And a huge thank you to our fellow city of Stillwater departments. The city staff provides top notch customer service not just to citizens, but to the library as well. Whether it is the IT guys working nonstop to keep our patrons’ computers and Internet running smoothly or the police and fire personnel who keep us extra safe, we are fortunate to benefit from their dedication to public service.

So many people and groups help keep the library functioning.Thank you to you all!

  • Live Well 07-20-14

It is way too easy to hit snooze on my alarm clock.
Exercising in the morning always seems like a good idea until the alarm starts yelling at an ungodly hour.

  • Grow! 07-20-14

Roses are a beautiful addition to any garden and landscape. They come in a variety of colors that enhance your yard. However, like other plants, roses are susceptible to disease. One that seems to hit roses the hardest is rose rosette disease caused by the rose rosette virus.

No wonder everyone is so smitten with just her voice. She’s smart and precise and I’ve also recently discovered I can’t live without her. Her name is Siri.

  • In the Garden 07-20-14

Mulch is full of purpose. What it lacks in mystery, it makes up in function. Mulch contributes to healthy gardens. No one ponders or debates it, yet many do not take the time to mulch.
