The Library Shelf 07-08-14

Drop off your reading cards

The Summer Reading program is going by fast! That means that you should bring in your reading logs and cards as soon as you can to be eligible for special prizes.

Children are reading for many different prizes such as: read ten hours, get invited to a special awards program with string artist David Titus; read 15 hours, get in the drawing for one of five gift cards; read 20 hours, get in a drawing for a Monty Harper classroom visit; and read 30 hours, get in a drawing for a one year, family of four pass to the Oklahoma WONDERtorium!

Teens are reading for chances to win one of two iPad Minis.

Drop those reading cards off when you come to the children’s program on  July 15, at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Zany singer songwriter Monty Harper will take kids on a journey through the “Science Frontier.” The entire family will enjoy his multimedia, interactive production.

On July 16, at 2 p.m., teens will meet at the Multi Arts Center for “Cosmic Crafts.” Emily, our teen librarian, will show you how to make cheap but super chic T-shirts that mimic the starry skies. Teens should bring a plain black T-shirt. Afterward, Emily will demonstrate how to do cyanotyping, which will make your craft look like a fabulous constellation.

On  July 17 at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Summer Cinema features the most awesome kids’ film of the year! The PG animated film will make you “Let It Go” and sing along with the catchy music.

Plus, with it being so hot outside, you be glad for our chilly air conditioning. It will make “You Wanna Build a Snowman.”

Stacy DeLano is an Adult Services Librarian for the Stillwater Public Library, 1107 S.
