QUICK 5: Stillwater Chamber prepares annual meeting, banquet

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater Chamber of Commerce President/Chief Executive Officer Lisa Navrkal discusses Thursday’s annual meeting and awards banquet which starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Oklahoma State University Student Union Ballroom.

1 How long does it take to prepare for the annual banquet and how have ticket and tables sales gone?

We start preparing about three months out from the event, as we get closer to the event the more hectic finalizing the details are. Our event registration is up about 10 percent over last year.

2 The Stillwater Chamber of Commerce announces its annual awards Thursday. What are the categories?

Young Professional of the Year; Ambassador of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Not for Profit Business of the year, Large Business of the Year and Chamber Choice Business.

3 The venue has changed to the Student Union. What other changes can we expect at the banquet?

We changed the venue this year to rotate our events we hold at the Chamber. We are excited to be in the Ballroom at the Student Union. This event is a celebration of our businesses so we are making a few changes to ensure our members have time to connect with each and have some fun. We will have a live band during cocktail hour and to play immediately following the program. We shortened the program by not having a keynote speaker this year. We want to encourage our attendees to stay around, enjoy the company of their fellow businesses and listen to some great music by My-Rock.

4 What's on the banquet’s dinner menu?

Bacon Wrapped Smoked Pork Lion with Glazed Carrots and for the most important part DESSERT…Red Velvet Cake or Black Forest Cake.

5 Will you review some of the chambers' accomplishments of 2013 and any goals that have been set for 2014?

The Stillwater Chamber team has worked very hard over the last two years to ensure the needs of our partners are being met. We have developed 33 new programs to provide educational opportunities that assist in the development of their business and also developed marketing opportunities to bring exposure to their business. We have seen our membership growth explode seeing a 346 percent increase in new members.
