STILLWATER, Okla. —
A fun and healthier Stillwater; that is the Stillwater YMCA’s motto.
Stillwater YMCA Childcare Director Orlando Williams said “the Y” is a special place. He said the organization has many missions, principally to improve people’s quality of life.
“We try to achieve and provide a healthy lifestyle for people regardless of their financial or social status,” Williams said. “We open our doors to everyone.”
The Stillwater YMCA has approximately 1,000 children it impacts each year. Williams said approximately 500 children are involved in an after-school program.
Williams said the YMCA would like an increase in the number of older individuals becoming involved, too. He said families can become members of the Y for approximately $40 per month.
He said the YMCA does its best to make an impact on every person who walks through the door.
“We emphasize on a healthy lifestyle spiritually,” Williams said.
Williams said the best part of his job is when he helps improve a person’s quality of life.
The YMCA is funded in part by the Stillwater Area United Way.
Williams said the funding helps keep the doors open.
There are many perks to working at the YMCA, Williams said.
“The best part is the fact you can directly influence someone’s life,” Williams said. “You can see how they are influenced and it gives you pride to do that and you have to be humble when you do it.”
