Oklahoma State looks to build on tradition with new celebration

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State University hopes to begin a new tradition in conjunction with the holiday season.

The Fanfare of Lights celebration takes place Nov. 27. OSU Allied Arts and Special Events Coordinator Brandon Mitts said while the event itself has been in existence, they hope to add to it.

“In the past, the Student Government Association, they’ve done the lighting of the campus for the past few years where they have kind of a brief ceremony and light the decorations at the OSU library and we’re kind of building on that tradition,” Mitts said.

The event begins at 7 p.m. in front of Edmon Low Library where free cookies and cocoa will be served. Those attending will also receive glow sticks, he said. Local musicians will lead the group in traditional Christmas carols. Ann Hargis will take the stage at 7:45 p.m. to officially light the campus.

“After the caroling and the lighting, we’ll have a free concert,” Mitts said. “We have about 450 seats available in the Student Union Theater for people to come and we’ll have the OSU Chorale group.”

The concert begins at 8:15 p.m. The OSU Brass Ensemble will also be on hand as more traditional holiday favorites and classical works will be performed.
