High winds, dust causing highway detours on Interstate 35

STILLWATER, Okla. — High winds and blowing dust are causing detours on parts of Interstate 35, Highway 74 and Highway 11. Department of Public Safety reports near blackout conditions with less than 10 feet of visibility.

According to highway patrol officials Interstate 35 northbound will be detoured at Tonkawa westbound on Route 60, northbound on Highway 74 and eastbound on Highway 11 to Blackwell. Interstate 35 southbound will be detoured at Blackwell westbound on SH11, southbound on Highway 74 and eastbound on Route 60 to Tonkawa.

A release stated officials anticipated an extended closing and asked motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
