STILLWATER, Okla. — Payne County commissioners discussed a new commissioners’ assistant position at Monday’s meeting.

District 2 County Commissioner Chris Reding said he didn’t believe the job was needed. Reding said he had a existing employee who was looking for more hours who could perform the tasks asked of the commissioners’ assistant.

The job description said the commissioners’ assistant works for the commission office and all the commissioners, but the assistant only reports to the District 1 commissioner. The employee would do purchase orders for the road districts and would primarily focus on items concerning the road districts.

District 1 County Commissioner Zach Cavett proposed the new position and District 3 County Commissioner Jim Arthur and Cavett said they thought the new hire would be a good idea. Reding said he didn’t believe it was a good use of the county’s money, but Cavett said the job would be paid through cash funds.

The assistant would be located in the Payne County Clerk’s office and would also do anything needed to help in the operation of Payne County.
