Chickasaw phone problem short-lived

STILLWATER, Okla. — A broken link in Chickasaw Telephone Co.'s system led to connection issues for its customers in Stillwater and all of southern Oklahoma, said Keith McDaniel, the company operations manager in Stillwater.

The link was broken at a tandem switch in Sulphur, he said, and prevented Stillwater customers from making long-distance calls or calls on non-Chickasaw switches.

"Probably about 25 minutes we were running with it broken," he said.

The break affected city hall, although not the 911 system, said spokeswoman Sherry Fletcher.

McDaniel said the minute the link broke, he called Chickasaw's workers in Sulphur, where they were already working to repair the break.
