BREAKING: Officers investigating fatal crash on State Highway 177

STILLWATER, Okla. — Three are dead and two are in hospital after an early Thursday morning wreck on State Highway 177.

A Jeep driving on the wrong side of the road collided with a van near 68th Street on State  Highway 177 between Stillwater and Perkins, Trooper Stephen Royster said.

Royster said the driver of the Jeep died along with the driver of the van and one of its three passengers. The other two van passengers were taken to Stillwater Medical Center.

Royster said the driver of the Jeep was a resident of Payne County but identifying those in the van has been more difficult. Royster said they were prison officials from Puerto Rico visiting a correctional facility in Cushing.

Cimarron Correctional Facility has a contract with the Puerto Rico Department of Corrections to house some of its inmates.

Troopers said they are still investigating the cause the crash.
