Patty Plop to raise funds for children

STILLWATER, Okla. — The fourth annual Kows for K-Life will take place at 6 p.m. April 30 at the Lazy J Arena in Stillwater.

K-Life Board Member Cristi Wuller said the evening will feature hamburgers and hot dogs with a chance to win big at the K-Life Patty Plop. Each participant may purchase a 2-foot by 2-foot square corresponding to a piece of land at the event. When the event begins, a cow will be released into the field and the person who owns the square in which the cow first “plops” will win 10 percent of the donations from the night.

Wuller said many will cheer on the cow to their spot.

“It’s quite a sight,” she said. However, the process can take some time. “Sometimes, we’ve had them within 10 minutes and some within an hour.”

Also part of the event will be a horseless rodeo, said Area Director Walter Kearns.

“Last year, we did a little carnival thing so families could come out and the kids could play,” he said.

However, this year, games and activities related to a rodeo will take place, but without the animals. For instance, barrel races will include human wheelbarrows instead of horses. Wuller said K-Life is solely funded by the community.

“It’s a place to play games and it’s connected with a lot of college leaders who volunteer their time to run the whole organization,” she said. “They are the key to it being successful.”

The group will also hold a 5K mud run Oct. 26. The location has yet to be determined.

“In order for us to run the ministry and to disciple kids, the overhead cost is provided by fundraisers such as the Patty Plop,” Kearns said.

He said he hopes to see the Patty Plop became a traditional event and welcomes everyone to join them.

“It’s going to be a fun, family atmosphere,” Kearns said.
