STILLWATER, Okla. — Serving students drinks, snacks and other convenience store items for 21 years can leave an impression.

Aggie Stop owner Hamid Khoshroo didn’t know how big an impression until his final days behind the counter, which will close Saturday.

“I didn’t know I was so famous,” Khoshroo said, smiling. “People brought flowers, cards. Oh my gosh — I was shocked.”

According to Oklahoma State University officials, the school purchased the convenience store’s lease. The Aggie Stop, 1138 W. Hall of Fame Avenue, will close on Saturday. Khoshroo said the news brought one woman to tears.

“I said ‘I’m not dying, I’m just moving on to the next section of my life,’” Khoshroo said. He plans to stay in the Stillwater area. Khoshroo has two children, one attending the United States Military Academy and the other attending United States Naval Academy.

“I have very good memories. Every day was fun,” he said.

Khoshroo said he enjoyed meeting new students from different countries and cultures each semester. He has also watched the university grow around him.

He started the store 21 years ago when a QuikTrip that previously occupied the building closed. When the university approached him to purchase the lease he decided it was time for other things and agreed.

“Life goes on,” he said.

Oklahoma State Communications Director Gary Shutt said the school will reopen the store in January but it will not be called Aggie Stop. Shutt said it will remain a convenience store until various surrounding construction projects get farther along.

The school will then determine what it wants to do with the property.
