STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater police will continue their investigation into sexual abuse allegations even though a 22-year-old Stillwater man was charged Wednesday in Payne County District Court.

Nathan Michael Cochran, 22, of Stillwater has been charged with three counts of sexual battery. He wasn’t in custody at the Payne County Jail Wednesday night.

If convicted, Cochran could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison on each count.

Cochran also was the subject of an Oklahoma State University Office of Student Conduct Education and Administration investigation. Five people complained of sexual misconduct. Four of those incidents were confirmed, OSU officials said.

According to Oklahoma State University’s website, Cochran was active in the university’s Interfraternity Council, having served as secretary. He also served as a student director for Camp Gundy, also known as Gundyville, an activity that allows students to camp outside Boone Pickens Stadium home football games in order to obtain the best student seats.

According to police affidavits, two people have accused Cochran of sexually touching them without their consent as they slept on two separate occasions. Both victims were acquainted with Cochran.

According to court documents. Cochran groped and fondled a male on Aug. 15.

Immediately following the incident, Cochran started texting the victim, according to court records.

An affidavit transcribed several of those text messages from Cochran’s phone: “I’m not a (expletive) like that than ... Not even sure what that was ... So (expletive) weird to my self and I just want (y)ou to talk to me so you don’t get the super wrong impression. I have a (expletive) girlfriend man ... Who I’m proposing to soon ... (expletive) answer my phone call?”

In additional texts,  Cochran said he was “black-out” drunk that night and didn’t need rumors spread.

A second male states in an affidavit that he and Cochran were watching a movie on Nov. 3, 2011. The victim said he fell asleep in a sofa bed. He awoke when Cochran started touching him sexually.

The victim stated in the affidavit that he pretended to be asleep during the assault, hoping it would cause the suspect to stop. He stated the suspect attempted to perform a variety of sexual acts but eventually stopped when the victim did not respond.

Oklahoma State University concluded its investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct on Nov. 30. Cochran was suspended from university. The suspension starts Friday.

Stillwater police launched its investigation Thursday. The Oklahoma State University police and Tahlequah police have joined the inquiry.
