STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State University’s 4-H Development Program is sponsoring the inaugural Thunderbird Veterans Weekend 5K Run and Walk from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Sgt. Christopher Buck of the Oklahoma National Guard is participating and said, “The 4-H is hosting the race on the beautiful OSU campus. You can walk, run or even wear a backpack or rucksack like an Army ruck march if you want — just a fun family outing to get some exercise.”

Registration begins at the starting line near the north side of the OSU Student Union from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Opening ceremonies are at 1:30 p.m. with the official start at 2 p.m.

Awards and race results will be announced at 3:30 p.m. The registration fee is $10.

The memorial race intends to celebrate and support the nation’s past and present military heroes. Proceeds will benefit the annual holiday food drive for military families in need. A holiday dinner is also planned Dec. 14 at the Payne County Expo Center.

Buck said the 4-H has a tradition of helping military families.

“The 4-H runs a camp for military children each summer,” he said.

The hosts plan to make the run an annual event during Veteran’s Day weekend to demonstrate appreciation for the military. For more information, contact
