STILLWATER, Okla. — A former Payne County detention officer has received a deferred sentence after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of unlawful receipt of compensation by a detention officer.

Judge R.L. Hert accepted the plea of  Franklin Marty Ward, 28, of Enid on June 3 and deferred judgment and sentence for four years. The court ordered Ward ot pay court costs and incarceration fees. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine, pay $250 to the victim’s compensation fund and perform 100 hours of community service with the environmental officer. He also ws ordered to write a letter of apology to Sheriff R.B. Hauf.

In February 2013, an undisclosed source told the sheriff's office that 27-year-old detention officer Franklin Marty Ward was accepting money for contraband items.

Ward also was accused, but never charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a female inmate.

According to court records, an investigation of video surveillance and audio feed records revealed nothing criminal happened between Ward and the female inmate, only violations of jail rules.
