Leaks slow water system work on Duck Street.

STILLWATER, Okla. — Construction on South Duck Street near West Third Avenue will be delayed because of a broken water valve that spilled water onto the street at West Third Avenue and South West Street, said Jamie Portell, project manager for Orion Construction Service Corp., of Woodward.

The company is replacing 33 fire hydrants and 26 water valves in a contract with the city to improve water infrastructure.

Portell said the section of Duck Street is scheduled to return to four lanes by Wednesday, as his crew is working Saturday to install the new water valve. The concrete is scheduled to be poured Monday, he said.

Residents and surrounding business would be given 48-hours notice of a water shut-off, which is needed to complete the work, said Greg Yeary, resident project representative for Myers Engineering, the city’s consultant on the project.

Yeary said the city was installing a temporary valve to stop the water flow and allow Orion to continue work.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
