BREAKING NEWS: Stillwater police investigating embezzlement at First United Methodist Church

STILLWATER, Okla. — During an audit of financial records in December First United Methodist Church officials discovered someone may have embezzled in excess of $140,000 from the church, Stillwater police said.

Police Capt. Randy Dickerson said the investigation is under way and the amount suspected of being embezzled is expected to rise. He said police have one suspect, a church employee. Charges are expected to be filed in the next few weeks, Dickerson said.

"In review of our financial records, we found some questionable practices we believe warranted a police investigation," said  First United Methodist Church senior pastor Mike Chaffin. "We have turned over pertinent information to the Stillwater Police Department."

The records in question are from 2010 to 2012.
