Stillwater Public Library Trust renews testing database

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater Public Library Trust board renewed the library’s testing database for $2,406 Thursday and allowed the library director to spend $1,000 on the Community Read program which will begin in February.

Library Director Lynda Reynolds said the library has had the database for approximately five years, but not many people know about it.

Board Vice Chairman Matt Hull said many people he talks to do not know the database exists.

Library card holders can access the database at the library or online by going to the Reference tab on the library’s website and following the Online Databases link, Reynolds said.

The content of the database is produced by Gale, Reynolds said. Gale is an e-research and educational firm, according to its website.

Reynolds said the online database offers testing help for students wanting to take the ACT, the SAT, study for their GED test or several other tests.

The database offers more testing help than the library could provide by purchasing books, she said.

The Community Read program will begin Feb. 28 Reynolds said. This year’s book is “The Autobiography of Woody Guthrie, Bound for Glory.”

Reynolds said she would be buying 75 copies of the book for $600, with $400 held in reserve for possibly purchasing more books or for expenses associated with promoting the event.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
