Lake group seeks public input at Friday meeting

STILLWATER, Okla. — Citizens for Lake McMurtry will be seeking public input at its noon  meeting Friday at  the Stillwater Community Center, 315 W. Eighth Ave., board member Mary Cash said.

Citizens for Lake McMurtry is a nonprofit organization interested in the preservation and use of the lake, Cash said. Nine people attended the group’s December meeting, but the group would like to see more people get involved.

Some group members have been concerned about a drilling rig on the northwest section of the lake, Cash said.

“It’s not the most formal organization,” Cash said. “It’s a group of everyday people.”

The lake is owned by the city of Stillwater and operated by a non-profit group, the Lake McMurty Friends.

Citizens for Lake McMurty changed its name from Friends of Lake McMurty to avoid confusion, she said. The group has been around for two years, and changed its name in December, she said.

According to an agenda, the group will discuss meeting on the same day as Chili-Bike, an event sponsored by the Red-Dirt Pedalers for the past 10 years which is being held Feb. 17.

Cash said the group will consider inviting Grady Lester, the lake manager, to come to the February meeting. The group is also expected to talk about having an event to coincide with Chili-Bike.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
