Alcohol sting yields three citations in Stillwater

STILLWATER, Okla. — The Alcohol Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission conducted a sting to determine if Stillwater businesses were selling alcohol to minors. Two establishments of the 17 checked were issued citations.

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and Dulaney’s Retail Liquor Store were cited for selling to several teenagers.

Fuzzy’s was cited twice when it sold to a 16-year-old minor and a 17-year-old minor, said Regional Prevention Coordinator Bonnie Kaiser.

Dulaney’s was cited when it sold to a 19-year-old minor.

An ABLE Commission agent and Stillwater police officers supervised the teenagers during the Jan. 17 sting.

The clerks involved were cited and could face felony charges.

“Merchants must make an effort to determine a customer’s age and not sell to those under 21,” read a press release from Kaiser.

“It’s mandated by Oklahoma law and expected by the community.”

The Stillwater Police Department sponsors classes, in partnership with Oklahoma State University Prevention Programs and the ABLE Commission, for merchants to explain current alcohol laws and to provide tips on checking identification.

Establishments interested in having OSU Prevention Programs present a class can contact Kaiser at 405-372-2015.

“I love the high energy stuff,” he said. “Even though it’s country, being able to rock it up, distorted guitars and just seeing the crowd, feeding off of that.”
