STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater sand and salt trucks are poised to begin coating the streets as snow, sleet and rain is expected throughout the day in Payne County.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the county that will be in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday
According to the service's forecast of Payne County, there will be snow throughout the day, rain in the early afternoon and isolated thunderstorms with highs in the mid 30s.
Tuesday night there will be a 60 percent chance of snow with lows in the upper 20s.
Stillwater Public Relations Director Sherry Fletcher said salt trucks are ready to follow the city's snow and ice removal plan:
Order Streets are Cleared
First priority is principal arterials. This includes clearing access to Stillwater Medical Center’s emergency room, fire stations and Oklahoma State University. Principal arterials include sections of Main Street, Duck Street, Boomer Road, Washington Street and downtown Stillwater.
Second priority is selected minor arterials. These are heavily traveled streets, usually four lane streets.
Third priority is selected collector streets.
These are busy streets that “collect” traffic from neighborhoods and provide access to principal and minor arterials.
residential streets
city crews do not have the resources to clear residential streets or driveways blocked by plowed snow.
Parking Lots
Depending on the type of accumulation and available equipment and/or crews, residents may see city workers clearing parking lots and completing other snow-removal activities before the priority streets are cleared.
Sidewalks
All property owners are required to clear sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours after a snowfall ends.
Potholes
Winter storms may increase the appearance of potholes. Residents are encouraged to report potholes online at stillwater.org using the “Assistance Request” link and selecting “Street Maintenance.”
Oklahoma Department of Transportation
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining State Highway 51 and U.S. Route 177.
Oklahoma State University
Oklahoma State University is responsible for all streets and sidewalks within its border, except for sections of Hall of Fame Avenue and Western Road.
