Stillwater schools prep for start of year

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater Public Schools will not begin the fall semester until Aug. 20, but school sites will be abuzz with activity in the next couple of weeks as the district ramps up for the 2013-14 school year.

Parents with elementary school children new to the district can enroll their students at school sites. The elementary school enrollment packet  can be downloaded from the district’s website,

Parents will need to bring a state-certified birth certificate, immunization records and proof of Stillwater residence (lease, mortgage or utility bill).

Birth records are available at three locations in the state — the Oklahoma State Department of Health in Oklahoma City, the James O. Goodwin Health Center in Tulsa and the Pittsburg County Health Department in McAlester. The processing fee is $15. For more information about obtaining a birth certificate, visit or call 405-271-4040.

Enrollment Verification Day will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for returning elementary students at each of the six school sites. Parents need to confirm in person that their student will be returning for the upcoming school year. Parents will need to provide proof of Stillwater residence.

The verification day also is a chance for parents to set up lunch accounts, purchase school supplies and get information about school bus transportation times and routes.

Secondary school enrollment packets also are available at the district’s website and can be downloaded and filled out prior to visiting the school. Proof of Stillwater residence also is required.

Parents with children who will be new students at Stillwater Middle School can enroll their students at school Monday and Tuesday or Aug. 8-9 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Returning students at the middle school can pick up their schedules at school from 9 a.m. to noon, 1-3 p.m. or 5-7 p.m. Aug. 13.

Appointments are being scheduled for parents with children new to Stillwater Junior High. Parents need to call the middle school at 533-6420 to schedule an appointment.

Returning junior high students can pick up their schedules at the school Aug. 13. Eighth-graders can get their schedules from 9:30-11 a.m., while ninth-graders can pick up their schedules from 1:30-3 p.m.

New students at Stillwater High School should enroll at the school.

Schedules for returning high school students soon will be available — seniors, 9-11:30 a.m. Monday; juniors, 9-11:30 a.m. Tuesday; sophomores, 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Students unable to pick up their schedules on those dates can do so from 9-11:30 a.m. Aug. 8-9.
